The residents of Tokyo have learned how to remain active, despite living in a crowded and busy city. The residents of Tokyo do not use the city's space limitations as a reason to become a city of “couch potatoes.” Travelers who spend time in Tokyo can benefit from copying the approach taken by the Japanese.

Japanese use the practicing of martial arts as a way to stay active. A traveler staying in Tokyo can find a location at which to learn or brush-up on either karate or judo skills. A more adventurous traveler might care to learn the skills that are needed by those who pursue kyudo. That is a form of Japanese archery.

The limitations of space make it difficult to find a swimming pool inside Tokyo . Only the most expensive hotels provide their guests with the luxury of a pool. During the summer, a traveler in Tokyo can cool off by heading to the beach. There are two popular beaches outside of Tokyo —Miura-hanto and Kamakura .

The Japanese like to relax after they have taken part in something that has made them very active. Tradition has allowed public forms of relaxation to be viewed as another type of activity. Tokyo travelers should have no trouble finding a “sento,” a public bath.Do not look for a golf course inside of Tokyo . One might be able to find a miniature golf course. Still, space limitations in Tokyo do not favor golfers any more than they do swimmers. Those limitations make the creation of even a nine-hole golf course a pricey project, within the boundaries of Tokyo . Tennis courts, too, are few and far between in Tokyo.
